Chapter Twenty-four

On page 159, in his letter to Sam, Grandpa said, "And much as I want you here, home with Grandma and me, we can't have your new life in a new land blighted because of a plague of locusts."

What do you think "blighted" means?  Why do you think that?

  1. I think "blighted" means contaminated or diseased. The locusts could have carried diseases so therefore it is contaminated by locusts.

  2. Maybe blighted means diseased because I remember that my brother told me that grasshoppers have a certain disease in them so that's why I think it means diseased.

  3. I think "blighted meas forgotten because they were thinking of forgetting their new life.
