Chapter Twenty-one

On page 138, Sam says, "Ma chided me for fidgeting at the table, but I couldn't sit still and ran outside to stand on top of the dugout."

What do you think it means to "chide" someone?

  1. I think that chided means to hit or to look at someone in a way like to tell them to stop.

  2. I think it means to yell at some one.

  3. I think to chide means to scold because Ma would scold Sam for fidgeting at the table.

  4. I think chided or chide means to elbow or scold someone. It would make sence for ma to scold or elbow Sam for fidgeting at the table.
